GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for providing clinical expertise in his/her specialty area to optimize patient/family, nurse, and systems outcomes and:


· directly or indirectly plans, implements and evaluates patient and family specific care appropriate to the complexity of the problems and resources of the system

· demonstrates clinical inquiry to improve clinical practice and service outcomes

· assesses and evaluates care delivery models; implements changes based on outcome data

· develops education programs to improve patient outcomes and quality of care

· supports the practice of nursing through presentations, publications, research and involvement in professional organizations

· contributes within the institution to establish clinical best practice system processes

· coordinates with multiple disciplines to solve system issues

· demonstrates ethical decision making and patient advocacy


Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:


  • Advanced knowledge of nursing theory and practice in specialty
  • Skill in the use of specialized equipment used in respective area of practice

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

· Past teaching experience in formal/informal settings with knowledge of learning principles for population served.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· Graduate of a school of nursing

· Master’s degree in nursing

· Three to five years’ experience in specialty (qualifying specialties outlined in Florida State Board of Nursing documentation)

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP certification


LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

Investigates concerns or challenges and offers suggestions for improvement / correction.

· Identifies patient teaching needs and utilizes opportunities for teaching. Provides thorough and concise discharge instructions.

· Supports performance improvement initiatives and Clinical Best Practice initiatives (ACS, CAP, Brain Attack, Pediatric Asthma, etc.)

· Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs handwashing according to policy and enforces safety regulations.

· Is a customer service champion as demonstrated by smiling and making eye contact, providing information and updates to patients, apologizing for waits, demonstrating caring & concern, showing a sense of urgency, advocating for pain management and ensuring that patients can get help at any time. Rounds on patients to ensure that the patients have call bells and pillows, that care givers names are on the boards (applicable campuses), and that patient and families needs are exceeded.

The Multisystem ICU features 28 beds divided into three separate areas. We are an interdisciplinary team that cares for a broad spectrum of patients with diagnoses ranging from Septic Shock – Acute Brain Attack- Thoracotomy- Acute Renal Failure etc. Many of our patients have multiple comorbidities. We are on a journey to Magnet certification and have an active Nurse Practice Council and ICU Collaborative Practice Team.

Certifications / Degree

  • The candidate must possess a Registered Nursing license certified through the state of Floirda.
  • The candidate must possess at the minimum, a Associate's Degree in nursing through a certified institution.
  • The candidate must be BLS certified, ACLS is preferred.

Shift

  • The position calls for three 12hr shifts a week during the hours of 7pm - 7am.
