The Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) is a 28-bed post-open heart recovery area and a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. This department cares for over 2,000 cardiac surgery patients each year. Our collaborative team efforts are supported by a CV Governance Council that is multidisciplinary and oversees best-practices, monitors performance and directs operational issues. The Nursing Practice Council is a group of bedside clinicians who are responsible for directing Nursing Practice through research, as well as making recommendations to the CV Governance Council.
Patients Cared For:
u Post-op CABG, valve repairs and replacements
u Heart modification surgeries related to congenital heart defects
and disease processes
u Thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm
u AAA
u Other vascular surgeries as well as various thoracic surgeries.
u Overflow: Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic patients that require
critical care nursing
Special Therapies:
u Post-op patients admitted directly from the Operating room
u IABP, CRRT and Ventricular Assist Devices
u Satellite Pharmacy
u Point-of-care testing lab situated within the CVICU
Health Care Team Members:
u RNs (experienced, transitioned, and GNs via CCNIP)
u Patient Care Techs/Nurse Techs
u Health Unit Coordinator
u Clinical Nurse Specialist
u Education Specialist
u Primary Preceptor
u Assistant Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse
u CV Surgeons
u Physician Medical Director
u Work collaboratively with other disciplines such as

Considered among the country’s best for neurology and neurosurgery, Florida Hospital’s Neuro Division specializes in the early detection and treatment of brain, spinal, and central nervous system diseases and disorders—including Parkinson’s disease, strokes, and brain tumors. Using such state-of-the-art treatments as Interventional Neuroradiology, artificial spinal discs, and Gamma Knife radiosurgery, the hospital’s neurologists and neurosurgeons perform more neurosurgeries and treat more stroke patients than any other hospital in the state. Additionally, the Hospital’s Altamonte and Orlando locations serve as designated Stroke Centers.
The Neuro Medical Unit
This unit is comprised of patients who have experienced Brain Attacks, Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIA) and other neurological disorders. The Neuro Medical Nurses work with a specialty trained team, including Neurologists, Interventional Radiologists and therapists to provide critical monitoring, assessments and treatments during the acute stages of illness. This specially-trained team compassionately supports patients and families with a focus on regaining cognitive and physical function. Here, you’ll provide patients with an educational plan to reduce risk factors for neurological disease, and collaborate with case managers to safely transition patients to rehabilitation or home care. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to become an expert in seizure disorders, as you care for patients admitted for advanced seizure monitoring.
Unit specifics include:
• 39-bed remote telemetry unit
Nurse to patient ratio - 1:4
• Opportunity to work for the area’s designated Stroke Center and the busiest stroke hospital in the state
• Evidence based practice
• Patient rooms supporting a calm and soothing environment
Position Specifics:
  • Full-Time, 72 hours a pay period (12 hour shifts)
  • Nights (Every other Weekend required) 7p-7a
Position Requirements:
  • Graduate from School of Nursing (BSN Preferred)

Come experience the difference of our fully renovated labor and delivery and private mother/baby rooms with added amenities to create special memories. Our dedicated team of nurses has more than 160 years of combined experience, caring for generations of babies.

The newly renovated unit includes 18 private rooms, birthing rooms, and two birthday suites (spacious rooms with a home-like environment).

We are a Level 1 Nursery. Lactation services are available seven days a week, as well as 24-hour in-house anesthesia services. For critically ill infants, our maternity unit is backed by a Level III Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Florida Hospital Orlando. A transport team is available 24-hours a day to transport critically ill neonatal patients.

POSITION INFORMATION: Experienced Newborn Nursery nurse for Level 1 nursery-Full Time Days: Experience in Mother/Baby strongly preferred

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Graduate of a school of nursing.

• Basic Life Support

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs properly and legibly documents and reports all procedures and assessments in accordance with department policy.
• Obtains or delegates the obtaining of a nursing history. Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior motor skills and physiological norms of the patient. Completes the admission assessment, including pain screening. Completes all follow-up assessments and evaluations. Assesses for signs of abuse or neglect.
• Demonstrates the ability to assess and interpret diagnostic data relative to patient age and condition.
• Able to identify individualized plan of care. Identifies needs and develops/modifies plan of care.
• Interprets and verifies physician orders correctly. Investigates questionable situations. Performs treatments and administers medications according to policy and procedure. Functions appropriately in clinical emergencies. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions and medications.
• Evaluates patients’ developmental level, identifies increased physical/emotional dependency needs and evaluates availability of support system consistent with the age of the patient served.
• Identifies the need for patient teaching and utilizes each opportunity for teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis.
• Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
• Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand-washing according to policy and enforces safety regulations.
• Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade nursing skills. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
