UNIT INFORMATION

We are excited to announce that the opening of our new 40 bed Medical/Surgical unit will be in January 2010! Our new unit will serve patients with a variety of medical diagnoses including CHF, pneumonia, and GI disorders, as well as general surgical conditions. The nurse patient ratio is 1:5-6 with assistance from Patient care technicians. In addition, we boast a dynamic and innovative team of nurses and support staff with a nurses practice council committed to high quality patient care.

GENERAL SUMMARY

ABOUT THE UNIT:

ED:

We are a mission-focused unit, dedicated to diagnosing and treating a wide variety of

actual and potential health problems. We are a major stroke and cardiac receiving facility

for the tri-county area. Our expanded ED has grown to include 51 beds, six nurses stations,

five nutrition stations, real-time radiography stations, and the latest equipment for

tracking vital signs, lab results, x-rays and more (all housed within the ED department).

Patients are cared for in private rooms (with private bathrooms and plasma televisions), by

an accomplished team of nine emergency medicine physicians, four physician extenders, and

over 95 nurses. Working in the ED offers exposure to clinical trials and other cutting-edge

procedures.

UNIT SUMMARY:


We are a 24-hour nine bed children’s emergency center with dedicated pediatric physicians and pediatric trained nurses. The children’s emergency center has the only state of the art Phillips ambient lighting throughout the department and in the patient care rooms in the nation. This promotes a therapeutic and healing environment for our pediatric patients through the use of sound and lighting as a calming distraction throughout their treatment.

Uses the nursing skills of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in their patient care delivery. Primary function is the delivery of competent, compassionate, and cost effective nursing care. To utilize the nursing process in the direction and administration of the medical and nursing plan of care. This performance is in complian ce with established policies, procedures and protocols under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Director, Vice President of Clinical Services, and or designee.

Unit Description:

The Multi-system Intensive Care Unit (ICU) features 28 beds and is located on the 2nd floor of Florida Hospital Altamonte. The nurses on this unit care for patients with multi-system disorders, ranging from acute coronary conditions, septic shock, acute brain attach to multi-organ failure. This ICU also supports patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, ventilators and intra-aortic balloon therapy. The Florida Hospital Altamonte ICU is comprised of a caring multidisciplinary team of Nurses, physicians and support staff to meet the needs of their patients.

Job Description:

The RN is a registered professional nurse who is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities to identified age specific groups. The RN utilizes the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. The RN adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. The RN actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.


Job Requirements:

  • One year of recent Critical Care experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Must be a graduate of a school of nursing
