Come experience the difference of our fully renovated labor and delivery and private mother/baby rooms with added amenities to create special memories. Our dedicated team of nurses has more than 160 years of combined experience, caring for generations of babies.

The newly renovated unit includes 18 private rooms, birthing rooms, and two birthday suites (spacious rooms with a home-like environment).

Lactation services are available seven days a week, as well as 24-hour in-house anesthesia services. For critically ill infants, our maternity unit is backed by a Level III Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Florida Hospital Orlando. A transport team is available 24-hours a day to transport critically ill neonatal patients.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Graduate of a school of nursing.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Basic Life Support
• NRP

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
ACLS, PALS (based on patient population)

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Current registration with Florida State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse.

Graduate professional nurses who do not have an authorization to test (seating pass) will have a limited scope of practice as outlined in GN orientation

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs properly and legibly documents and reports all procedures and assessments in accordance with department policy.
• Obtains or delegates the obtaining of a nursing history. Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior motor skills and physiological norms of the patient. Completes the admission assessment, including pain screening. Completes all follow-up assessments and evaluations. Assesses for signs of abuse or neglect.
• Demonstrates the ability to assess and interpret diagnostic data relative to patient age and condition.
• Able to identify individualized plan of care. Identifies needs and develops/modifies plan of care.
• Interprets and verifies physician orders correctly. Investigates questionable situations. Performs treatments and administers medications according to policy and procedure. Functions appropriately in clinical emergencies. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions and medications.
• Evaluates patients’ developmental level, identifies increased physical/emotional dependency needs and evaluates availability of support system consistent with the age of the patient served.
• Identifies the need for patient teaching and utilizes each opportunity for teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis.
• Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
• Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand-washing according to policy and enforces safety regulations.
• Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade nursing skills. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will have prescriptive authority in the State ofFlorida under a practice agreement with a supervising physician. The NP/PA supports the clinical operation of the Transplant Center with primary focus on clinical services in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Delivery of patient care will be conducted in collaboration with the transplant surgeons and physicians including, but not limited to, physical exams, diagnosis and treatment, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventative health, write prescriptions, and assist in surgery.

Additionally, when functioning as the VAD Coordinator, the ARNP oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of care for patients with a VAD, in collaboration with the Medical Director of Advanced Heart Failure. The VAD Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing the patient care of this high-risk patient population throughout the continuum to optimize the patient’s clinical, functional, and psychosocial status; to provide the communication link for coordination of care among the multidisciplinary health care team involved with this patient type, and to orchestrate a performance improvement program that focuses on improving patient outcomes.

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Under administrative guidance and physician supervision, will provide comprehensive primary care services, acute care services, and extended care services in the area of nursing and or medicine for individuals and their families.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • If Nurse Practitioner - the ARNP is certified in advanced or specialized nursing practice by virtue of post-basic education, training, and experience in accordance with Floridastatutes. The ARNP practices with signed protocols submitted to the State Board of Nursing.

  • If Physician Assistant - the PA is a dependent practitioner with their scope of practice regulated by Florida Statute 458 and 459. Privileges requiring direct supervision by a physician are defined by Florida Statutes 59R-30.001.

  • CPR and ACLS

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS PREFERRED:

· Strong interpersonal & communication skills

· Ability to multi-task

· Bilingual, particularly Spanish

· Computer skills

· Certification in clinical transplantation

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • If Nurse Practitioner - must have successfully completed undergraduate and Master’s level-nursing programs, passed state boards, and achieved dual ARNP and RN status.

    • Individuals who completed their training prior to January 1, 2001, shall not be required to hold a Master’s degree.

  • If Physician Assistant - must hold a baccalaureate degree, or a minimum of two years of college credits, and have graduated from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), the successor program to CAAHEP

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

· Clinical pre- and post-organ transplant experience

· Extensive critical care experience and/or dialysis experience

· Public speaking experience

· Teaching/preceptor experience

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

If Nurse Practitioner:

  • Must hold valid, current State of Florida registered professional nurse (RN) and ARNP licenses
  • Must be certified by:

o the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

o the National Certification Corporation (NCC)

o the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)

o the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or become certified within five (5) years of completion of master’s degree.

If Physician Assistant:

  • Must hold a valid, current State of Florida physician assistant license
  • Physician Assistant—Certified (PA-C) must have taken and successfully passed the initial certifying examination by the National Commission on Certification for Physicians Assistants (NCCPA)
  • PA-Cs must maintain certification by recertifying every six years through the NCCPA examination process

o Including 100 approved CME hours every two years

  • The temporary state license issued to the graduated Physician Assistant is considered a valid/ current license until such time the Physician Assistant is a PA-C

o The new graduate will have one year from completion of training to become a PA-C
