UNIT INFORMATION
We are excited to announce that the opening of our new 40 bed Medical/Surgical unit will be in January 2010! Our new unit will serve patients with a variety of medical diagnoses including CHF, pneumonia, and GI disorders, as well as general surgical conditions. The nurse patient ratio is 1:5-6 with assistance from Patient care technicians. In addition, we boast a dynamic and innovative team of nurses and support staff with a nurses practice council committed to high quality patient care.
We are proud to be on a journey to Magnet certification and are looking for registered nurses that want professional growth, personal satisfaction, and are passionate about superior patient care!

The RN is a registered professional nurse who is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities to identified age specific groups. Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. This position also will include additional coordinator responsibilities.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge and Skill Required:

1-3 years of recent RN experience in Med/Surg, or related critical-care area.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.


Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

Graduate of a school of nursing.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

Current registration with Florida State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or actively seeking reciprocity from another state.

Unit Description:
On our 3 East- Surgical Unit we have 37 beds with private rooms. Nurses on this floor will typically care for patients who have had general surgeries ranging from abdominal to orthopedic, as well as, Medical overflow patients.

The nurse to patient ratio is 1:5 with assistance from patient care technicians. There is an Assistant Nurse Manager or Charge nurse available for each shift. The unit also has a trained Health Unit Coordinator to complete orders and answer phones for the nursing staff. The Florida Hospital Altamonte 3 East- Surgical unit is comprised of a caring multidisciplinary team of nurses, physicians and support staff to meet the needs of their patients.

The hospital supports nearly 600 critical care beds throughout all of the campuses, which allows our critical care nurses a variety of specialized units to work on. These units are range from ICU to PCU units that are specialized in cardiac, multi-system and much more. CVIII is a 16 bed vascular intensive care area, servicing fresh vascular surgical patients and complex cardiac surgical patients. Diagnoses include but are not limited to triple A's, fem-pops, carotids, CABG, Valve repairs and any thoracic surgical patients needing upper level care. The unit has a full time, Nurse Manager, four Assistant Nurse Managers covering days/nights, PCT assistance 24/7, and HUC coverage 7a-11p. Ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 depending upon the acuity of the patient. Educational support for staff is provided by a CV educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist. In addition, two preop educators are located on the unit to do bedside teaching for families and patients according to need. Staff has the opportunity to participate in the PPP (Professional Practice Program) similar to other hospitals with clinical ladders, train for relief charge duty and participate (if selected) to serve as preceptors and/or mentors for new nurses. The staff may also self-schedule. For nurses not trained in acute care, transitional education programs are available through Florida Hospital.
