Florida Hospital, named as one of America's Best Hospitals by US News and World Report five years running, is offering 8-12 week Critical Care Nursing Internship Programs for Cardiac Surgical, Cardiac Medical, Neuro, Renal, and Multisystem specialty areas.
Cardiac Surgical:
• CVICU- Cardiovascular ICU: Nurses who work on the 28-bed CVICU primarily care for fresh surgical cardiothoracic patients. After a one-day recovery period, patients are transferred to a PCU.
• CVIII- Surgical/Vascular ICU: This unit is a 16-bed vascular intensive care area servicing fresh vascular surgical patients and complex cardiac surgical patients.
• CVPCU- Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit is a 65 bed post cardiothoracic surgery step down unit. Our patients are admitted to this unit 24-30 hours after cardiothoracic surgery.
• MSPCU (8 Tower)- Multi-System/Vascular Progressive Care Unit: 39 private beds with patients on 24 hour remote telemetry. Caring for patients with diagnoses including: anemia, chest pain, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cerebral vascular accident, drug overdose, pneumonia, syncope, vascular insufficiencies, and various post-ops.
Cardiac Medical:
• CICU- Cardiac Intensive Care Unit: Our 32-bed unit is one of the largest in the Southeast and nation. The unit admits patients who may require invasive hemodynamic monitoring, specific cardiac care, and intra-aortic balloon pump therapy.
• CRCU- Cardiac Respiratory Care Unit: (ROCP-Rule Out Chest Pain) is a 12-bed unit, versatile for the PCU cardiac patient, as well as, CCU overflow. This is an inpatient unit geared to the assessment, evaluation, and continuous monitoring of the cardiac patient. Nurses who have background in Acute CCU or are looking to be challenged and grow into the Acute Critical Care arena are being sought for this specialty unit.
• CPOU- Chest Pain Observation Unit: is a 15-bed low risk chest pain unit, with the PCU level patient typically being admitted to the hospital from the ED for observation (24 hours or less) under medical management of our Florida Medical Observationalist Associates. Our physician's group works side-by-side with our nursing team on a daily basis.
• CTU- Clinical Transition Unit: (CDU-Clinical Decision Unit) PCU level patients typically come from the ED for cardiac outpatient observation for an extended evaluation. They may also be the ED patient awaiting a PCU level bed. We also accept direct admissions and patients being transferred from other referring hospitals awaiting a PCU. This 18-bed unit stays very busy.
• CIU- Cardiac Intervention Unit: This Progressive Care unit has 53 inpatient beds and focuses on medical cardiology. It also specializes in cardiac intervention cases, which may include: angioplasty, arthrectomy, stent deployment, EPS studies, as well as, various pharmocologic interventions.
• 2 East: PCU: 41 bed unit split with med/surg and PCU level beds. Specializing in the care of general medical surgical patients with focus on diabetes and vascular patients. Also caring for patients with peripheral vascular diseases, community acquired pneumonia (CAP), post surgical and congestive heart failure.
Neuroscience:
• NCC- Neuro Critical Care Unit: 16-bed intensive care unit that provides highly technical monitoring and nursing care for any patient with acute neurological problems, both medical and surgical. ICP monitoring, burst suppression monitoring and ventilator are technologies frequently utilized in addition to continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring. Additionally, this unique unit provides care for patients receiving endovascular interventions.
• NSU- Neurosurgical Progressive Care Unit: 39 bed Unit servicing patients with craniotomy, spine surgery including necks and backs, VP shunt placement, lumbar drains, bleeds (SAH, SDH, etc) and one bed is for epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU).
• NMU- Neuromedical Progressive Care Unit: 20 beds and growing in the Neuromedical Progressive Care Unit. This includes the brain attack unit. Servicing patients with TIA, strokes, seizures and any general neuro diagnosis (meningitis, MS, G. Barre, etc.).
Renal/Urology:
• Renal Dialysis ICU- 10 Bed unit provides hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis but also red and white blood cell exchanges, total plasma exchange and stem cell retrieval to adults and children.
• 4 South- PCU/Med-Surg: This 38 bed unit is split with PCU and Med/surg level beds. It specializes in the care of the renal/urology diagnoses, kidney transplants, chronic renal failure, radical prostatectomy, general surgery and vascular surgery.
Multisystems:
• Multi-system ICU- Nurses in this 16-bed unit provide primary care for patients with a wide variety of medical and surgical diagnoses, including sepsis, respiratory failure, renal transplantation and vascular surgery. The unit admits patient that may require invasive hemodynamic monitoring, continuous renal replacement therapy or chemical paralysis.
• Multi-system PCU 7 Tower:- Located on the seventh and eighth floors of the tower at the Orlando campus, these PCUs feature 39 beds on each unit. Nurses here treat patients received from a multitude of areas, including Intensive Care, Critical Care, the Recovery Room and the Emergency department as well as direct admissions from the community. This environment is best for nurses who love to be challenged and seeks the opportunity to learn daily and improve the lives of very complicated patients.
