GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Charge Nurse has direct shift responsibility for the quality and continuity of patient care for specific age groups identified by the standards of care. Under the direction of the Assistant Nurse Manager or Clinical Nurse Manager, coordinates and assists with all levels of nursing care delivered to patients on the inpatient department. Through the manager’s delegation, the Charge Nurse has the authority and responsibility to: facilitate the provision of care during a specific shift; improve quality of patient care; augment patient satisfaction; enhance recruitment and retention; monitor and maintain cost-effectiveness. The Charge Nurse is a role model and resource person guiding staff in the development of skills and capabilities. Exercise independent judgment in establishing priorities and assignments, review work, and resolve problems associated with care of patient during shift. Exercise independent judgment grounded in the knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice sufficient to be able to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The Charge Nurse adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Unit Description:
The Multi-system Intensive Care Unit (ICU) features 28 beds and is located on the 2nd floor of Florida Hospital Altamonte. The nurses on this unit care for patients with multi-system disorders, ranging from acute coronary conditions, septic shock, acute brain attach to multi-organ failure. This ICU also supports patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, ventilators and intra-aortic balloon therapy. The Florida Hospital Altamonte ICU is comprised of a caring multidisciplinary team of Nurses, physicians and support staff to meet the needs of their patients.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Possess a broad nursing knowledge, management ability, accepts responsibility, exercises authority and functions independently
• Personal qualities such as kindness, compassion, understanding, integrity, respect, sense of humor, discretion, and confidentiality

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS PREFERRED:
• Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Minimum of three years of professional nursing experience
• BSN or MSN, or be actively enrolled
• Prerequisites or co-requisites Florida Hospital Leadership Development Course

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) may be substituted for one year of required professional nursing experience
• Associate’s degree in Nursing

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
• Current valid Florida State Board of Nursing registered professional nurse license

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
• National Certification in specialty
