GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Admission/Discharge/Holding RN is a registered professional nurse who is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care to age specific groups that will be undergoing, or have had, surgical procedures or anesthesia interventions. Utilizes the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the surgical services department. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participate in outstanding customer service and accept responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

· Demonstrates knowledge and competence in Intravenous Therapy
· Demonstrates knowledge of the levels of growth and development and is skilled in providing age appropriate care for the patient in the PeriAnesthesia setting.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· 1 year nursing experience
· Current registration with Florida State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Care, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.
2. Assesses and interprets diagnostic information
· Is able to gather and accurately interpret clinical data, signs and symptoms
· Accurately obtains & interprets lab values
3. Accurately adheres to surgical/procedure site verification and marking process
4. Administers medication according to policy and procedure
· Monitors effect of medication
· Initiates/maintain intravenous site according to policy, and physician’s order
· Documents per policy and procedure
5. Performs age specific assessment on admission and throughout shift, including physical, mental, emotioal, social
and spiritual needs.
· Accurately interprets physical exam data and makes appropriate nursing decisions and interventions.
7. Demonstrates skill in Pain Management techniques
· Assesses and treats pain appropriately
· Assess pain using verbal and non-verbal cues and symptoms associated with pain
8. Utilizes methods of Effective Communication
· Effectively communicates patient needs to physicians and team members
· Interview/communication techniques are age appropriate
· Performs clinical documentation per Florida Hospital Policy and Procedure
· Initiates pre op and discharge teaching, and reinforces throughout hospital stay
9. Includes Patient’s emotional and spiritual needs in Plan of Care
· Includes family members in patient care when appropriate
· Utilizes resources for patients: spiritual ambassador, chaplain, outside agency.
10. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department
