IMPORTANT:

To begin work in the Emergency Department as a Nurse Technician, a 4 day long orientation will be required. Candidates will need to be available all day to attend the required orientation.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Nurse Technician, under the direct supervision of the professional nurse, ED Director, Nurse Manager, or Charge Nurse, assists nursing staff in the general care of patients, non-clinical and clerical services necessary to expedite the efficient functioning of the nursing unit consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures in the Emergency Department and hospital administration. Adheres to the Florida Hospital corporate compliance plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.




KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
BLS, CPR or Blitz

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s performance excellence program booklet.
  • Assists the physician or RN with procedures and exams; set up and clean up for sutures, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures, application of orthopedic splints and casting, etc. Performs foley catheter insertion, applies slings, sling-n-swathe, finger splints, application of dressings, etc. for all age groups entering the E.D.
  • Performs 12 lead EKG’s, initiates cardiac monitoring as directed by RN, performs, venipuncture for serum testing, blood glucose monitoring and assists with placing results on the appropriate chart.
  • Is a customer service champion as demonstrated by smiling and making eye contact, providing information and updates to patients, apologizing for waits, demonstrating care & concern, showing a sense of urgency, advocating for pain management, and ensuring that patients can get help at any time. Rounds on patients to ensure that the patients have call bells and pillows and to ensure that care givers names are on the boards (at applicable campuses). Maintains room organization, stocking levels and cleanliness. Distributes meal trays and assists patient as needed. Ensures comfort measures for patients and guests, and that patient and families needs are exceeded.
  • Relieves HUC, performs accurate order entry, log outs, maintains admission log, manages phone interactions, orders diets, etc.
  • Maintains room organization, stocking levels, and cleanliness.
  • Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs handwashing according to policy and enforces safety regulations.
  • Transportation of unmonitored patients to inpatient departments as needed, accompany RN to transport patients to specialty units.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
